Hello, AS group
on this site, this is where you create a professional discussion board about your work in the media. I'd like you to begin by talking about what you've learnt so far in terms of skills and concepts and to evaluate your role in group preliminary continuity task, "Ghosts".
Some pointers:
Did you observe the 180 degree rule, match on action, and shot-reverse-shot? If so, how well?
If not, why not?
How well did you work as a group? Problems? What was yor own role?
What would you do differently next time?
Anything else?

I have learnt that it is very hard to keep a straight face when acting a funny role. Also when it comes to panning don't rely on Paul.
ReplyDeleteThe editing process was fun we got to crop, snip and cut away anything that we didn't want e.g. there was a panning scene that looked very odd so we cut it out.
The final part of the editing process was great too we got to add sound effects, titles, credits and transitions
As i was the camera woman i had to identify various of shots throughout the performance. Whether they worked or wasn't appropriate we all identified the angles and camera shots. i observed the 180 degree rule with charl shiv dizzle and razza. i learned all the shots well and used them frequently to cause effect on the short movie. We worked very well as a team as we all agreed on the decisions that were made. The only problem that occured was siobhans acting skills as she couldnt concentrate on the script or her acting. The only thing i would do differently is change the roles of the people.
ReplyDeleteGroup 2:
ReplyDeleteWe didn't use the 180 degree rule in our task as it wouldn't of fit in our piece. We used match on action when there was a close up on my face, this was very effective as it shows the emotion of the character but also adds slight humor. We also didn't use shot-reverse-shot as it didn't fit our mini scene. We worked well as a group although trying not to laugh was difficult. Next time i think i would try to be more concentrated. This task was very enjoyable.
It's good to see some focused comments based around the questions.Ant obviously enjoys the editing, non-linear process rather than the technicalities of camera angles, shots and editing! Yasmin's group seems to have succeeded by not using the rules! Try to talk about your role, like Roxanne does, because it will be your work that is assessed, not your group's. However, Roxanne, I'm not sure who slobber, dribble and raddled are, so your birth names would be appreciated! ;-)) Well done you first bloggers!

ReplyDeleteI was the director i had to make sure everything was perfect. I had to make sure everyone was acting correct and the actual scene was correct. We applied the 180 degree rule, over the shoulder shot and also zooming. We applied these effects very good. we all worked very good as a team because we all agreed on the decisions that we made. The only problem that occured was probably sobhans laughing. The only thing i would do to improve our film is to change the actors around.
ReplyDeletewhen the group I as involved in, group 5 , we observed the 180 degree rule and match on action as well as we could, but perhaps not as well as the film required. We worked well as a group, getting a number of shots and scenes completed with relative ease. We communicated well as a group deferring ideas to each other, and following with as much professionalism as we had managed to pick up, so early in the course. It was a very enjoyable experience, as the course on the whole isn't restricted to the classroom, or even the school. The editing process that I took part in proved fulfilling and I am beginning to see the benefits I will reap two years from now.
ReplyDeleteWe had to get in to groups of four for our first task , we had to make a basic video to show how we will improve through out the year.
ReplyDeleteI took main control of the camera because i have steady hands and i didn't want to act because i feel i could of done a better job behind the camera then some of the other people in my group.
I didn't let Emily do much of the camera skills this time because she messed up the light settings on the camera.
I was the director in the group so i had to make sure that everyone was doing the right things at the right time. We used the 180 degree shot as well as the over the shoulder shot and zooming.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing i would change is the roles of the characters, the only thing difficult about the task was Siobhan laughing.
I enjoyed the task and editing the movie at the end.
HEY Media Gang :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this first task it gave me a real insight to what the year holds.
Me and Kirsty did the acting in our group and this was my prefered role it gave me a boost of confidence although i may try the camera handling in the next tasks.
I was nervouse to do any of the editing because i knew people in my group would be better at it before i learn the skills.
If i could improve the task i would of improved the establishing shot as that was the start of the video and viewers would get first impressions from there. Good Task BYe x
group 2:
ReplyDeletewe didn't use the 180 degree rule because we forgot about using it during the conversation. we did work well as a group but there was a bit to much laughing and messing about. my role within the group was the camera man but it was taken over by my fellow group members. i think we should have tried to improve our panning because it was a bit jumpy and try to not rely on the tripod as often.
There's some solid technical commentary developing here-well done, people! Sam's written style is impressive and deserves to be imitated-hint, hint. Who is psm? They are honest and show how working together professionally is vital to the production process or it can ruin or delay it. At the moment the introduction to the course is quite relaxed but you some of you are obviously aware of the pressures that are hinted at in this short task when you come to doing coursework. it's nice to see that you feel you have learnt a lot. I never thought of Charlotte as a fluffy bunny and I can't see Deepak's picture. All of the commentary is pleasing. Well done again!
ReplyDeleteJust a remider about your two pieces of personal research for Tuesday (the worksheets-one a list which you had to explore and define, the other on signs and symbols. They form an integral theoretical part of your work in Photography, so you need to do them. :-))
ReplyDeletePS. I need trip letters too,Roxane, Siobhan, Mark and Joe. I'll ask for the deposit for London by half term!
Don't forget to blog after tomorrow's planning for your film opening. You could begin a storyboard- there's a sheet to be photocopied on the desk along with some booklets about storyboards. Make sure you look through all the stuff in the chapter in Dynamic Learning too. I nned your permission letters for KicFM today or on Friday. have a good afternoon!
ReplyDeletetoday (3/12/09) and the week before(27/11/09) Me and my colleague Ant researched in detail gangster film openings - we started with classics - i.e Goodfellas and other films - the Departed, The Godfather and a few others. From this we surmised that the are varying techniques involved with gangster films in general - most are specifically dated to the Jazz age period of the 1930's - centered around prohibition and the rise of Italian American Families.
ReplyDeletethis would periodically based clothes - pinstriped suits - probably unlikely to be replicated for a film opening n detail, at least, however would be a good idea if it could be done with accuracy.
here are the videos we watched:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ2RofOEAEU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4nUFxsZqpA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_RcT9qCCFo
Don't forget that by next week you need to have blogged about your research, relating it to the Key Concepts outlined on the homework sheet, AND filled out your narrative planning/opening sequence, group roles, storyboards and shooting script sheets BEFORE you lay hands on the cameras! :0))
ReplyDeleteSam and Ant have started feeling their way around the mise-en-scene of the gangster genre; perhaps they could explre typical narratives and be a little more specific about other features too? I liked Zoe/Yasmin/ Paul's idea too, but won't give it away till they do. All the rest of you seemed to be working productively too-I'm looking forward to your results!

ReplyDeleteThis week i have been researching openings of films. I particularly researched two main genre's these are, Action and Gangster type films. The action opening films i watched are Transformers 1 and 2. The gangster type films i watched were The godfather and also Scarface. These films are all known films. These films have all made it big in America and the UK. You can tell that the gangster films are typical as they all where smart business suits. Researching these films have helped me to decide what genre i am going to do for my own opening film.
ReplyDeleteMe and my group are planning to do a short peice on horror drama. We have researched films in this genre to find ideas, and also watched a few clips from films to find out what makes a good film in this genre.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteIf any of you have blogged on your own site, I need the link pasted on this group blog so I can follow your thoughts about the research and planning. Deepak has commented on the mise-en-scene of the gangster genre and Chuurl has noted their chosen genre. WHERE'S THE REST? Also be more specific about key concepts, such as representation, narrative, camerawork and anything else that comes to mind. This week we will look at the mark scheme and a sample response for representation to point you all in the right direction a bit more.
ReplyDeletethis week, we needed to get our written work done. but firstly i had to blog on here. (lol)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9Js_cGCe2A
we watched the alternate ending to a scary movie we watched. we analysed the mise-en-scene used to make this as scary as it was.
it was the lighting, the scenery and also the lack of dialogue, there wasn't much speaking but there was diagetic sounds which made i spooky. we are planning to create a horror type trailer so this helped us alot.
ive posted the link to the alternate ending we watched.
we will proceed to look for some music or sounds to add to our trailer to make it better and to create a close scary effect to those we have watched.
we need to complete our shooting script and our storyboard this caused confusion within our group.
i had a clear idea of what we had to do, the planning confused everything. this was frustrating.
also we didnt have our narrative script, because roxanne had taken it home. i had to take on the role of creating a new one whilst completing other sheets. i had to do this to help the group as part of our time planning. rav n siobhan helped also. = D
ReplyDeletehttp://asmediacourseworkgroup2.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteThis week I researched film openings over the internet to give ideas for our group film. I chose horror as my genre because I thought it would be more fun to film. The films we researched are:
ReplyDeleteParanormal Activity (Trailer) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSSqxrh5kp8
The Ring (Opening) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gIuCfnmPQg
SAW (Opening) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXkiaZbM9MM
I watched trailers and opening scenes to give me ideas for my group opening film. I got the idea that I want there to be a possessed character because I watched the opening scene to Paranormal Activity and wanted to do something along the lines of that. The mise-en-scene would be just normal everyday clothing to make it look more realistic. After researching these film openings, I have a clear idea of what I want the film opening to be like.
In the process I researched the trailers, film introductions and endings to get a mixture of ideas and help give us ideas for our film. I also started the shooting script and storyboard. My group completed their own planning sheets then we put them together to get a bit of everyone’s ideas and put them in one.
My research has been successful in helping me decide upon my choice of genre for my film. From the film scenes I watched, I got a clear idea of what I wanted to include in my short film.
Through the research I have carried out, the target audience for my production can be any age. For the short film, I think if it goes as panned then any age range can watch it. If we were doing the full version of this then maybe it would be 16+.
The research has supported and informed my production so far because I can always look at my film research and get ideas as I go along, and follow the storyline but in the style of my short movie.
The mise-en-scene we would need is appropriate lighting. There is a scene in the corridor and to create the horror effect, we will need flashing lights which will be difficult to do because the setting is in a school corridor. We will need to film at the right time and when there are not any students walking around.
I asked a media student what he thought of the film opening that I researched and what his opinions are on my film opening ideas. I had to try and make the film opening short and not make it so it is like a short movie.
“ The films above are good examples to make the film scary and the group had good ideas to make a film opening.” – Deepak
the genre that we were focusing on was thriller. we had all chosen to use this genre as it seemed to be on of the most interesting.
ReplyDeleteWe watched film trailers and decided out of all them which ones would be the best to take the same kind of idea. It was quite hard to think of new ideas that would make our film look unique as many of the ideas we had thought of were actually in another film. We watched films such as
the ring
(http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=the+ring&search_type=&aq=f)
Paranormal activity
(http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=paranorma+trailer&search_type=&aq=0&oq=paranorm)
wrong turn

The group have been very disorganised over the past few weeks we have had people forget the cameras and not show up. we hadnt filled in most of our compulsary sheets so whilst the missing members were away me and siobhan filled them in and had them photocopied. we are long behind schedule and so hope to get started today. all of our research and planning is finished so we have to put our research and knowledge into action, and hope siobhan can keep a straight face long enough for us to get a decent shot = ]. So far our group has been quite slow and our effort inconsistent.
ReplyDeleteOver the last week we (me and my actors) have been filming shots that will form part of the film opening part of our coursework. Despite various organalisation problems that we had to overcome, most of which were unprecendented and not a little irritating. Despite this we managed to film some great shots in which my actors outshone any of my expectations. We shall continue to film and create a great film opening, as planned. we will then apply the footage to the editing stage of the course over the next 3 weeks.
ReplyDeleteI would like to edit my previous blog. the re are various problems that occured throughout our filming. There were various..."locational" problems surrounding our original filming. Due to our need for authenticity in our filming, we had to film in some potentially...contreversial places, but nothing that could not be accepted with a little more awareness of course requirements - especially at A level. As a result we had to film while at the same time dancing around red tape. However, we had found a place that wouldn't cause an issue, we created our filming.
ReplyDeletesiobhan was unable to attend today as she had commitments elsewhere. but me, roxanne and rav were able to begin our editing process on the footage we were shooting last week. we decided to chop and add a few bits. we had help from a graduate student last week which was a big help and because we had a full group we could get alot done. everyone pulled their weight and siobhan didnt ruin the filimg by laughing all the way through so.....it was a success. Roxanne has attened 3 lessons in a row, im starting to get worried. :) genuinly happy with my group at the moment. :D peace out.

firstly, id like to say that im very proud of my group. we completed our video and edited it. (Roxanne did most th editing to be fair buh HEYY we were there weren't we?) we/she added non diagetic sound like heartbeats. there was one main character in the film (yours truly) dressed like a 1840s tudor crossed with a cowboy with a black bag on my face. i think we could have improved on showing what the plot was and the narrative.
ReplyDeletewe are due to start on our audience response, siobhan, again, is unable to attend (my guess is the bus broke down, or the bus was late, or she just didnt get on it) ahehe
me roxanne and ravnita are here to begin and complete the questionnaire.
The film opening task went well. I planned the shooting script and story board with three ideas. The filming went as planned, and it was completed in one lesson, because the movie is just one long shot. This left me with a couple of weeks researching more and editing on iMovie. I have now almost completed my editing, but I just need to make it look more like a film opening and not a trailer.
ReplyDeleteI chose 'horror' as the genre even though I wanted the target audience to be 15+. So I had to make sure that it was suitable for my target audience. The film has no dialogue, I wanted to create a film opening that is different to others. This is also why I didn't use a variety of camera angles.
I had help from a graduate student, Dan, who gave me advice on what to do to make it look more professional. He told me to ''cut the credits into sections and separate them throughout the film, this will make it look more professional and more like an opening. but apart from that, it looks good''. So I followed his advice and separated the credits and it definitely helped. I also had just one character which made the film more serious and not so messy. The sound is one of the key elements in this film. Throughout the film there is always some sort of sound effect playing to create suspense and thriller. So far I am in the process of editing, my group give advice to each other and whenever someone has an idea, we test it to see if it is good enough to go in for the final piece.
The Mise en scene used was just the costume, but the effect of the film really worked out well and went with the theme, the window was open which made it look much more interesting because the lighting comes out as if it was planned. I changed the lighting to black and white whilst editing and it is like that throughout the entire process of filming.
This week we all made it to media. Me, Ravnita, Siobhan and....(wait for it).....Roxanne. we've finished our film including editing and burning it to a disk. we now need to work on our audience feedback by creating a questionnaire. we will do this as a group.
ReplyDeleteRoxanne Says:
ReplyDeleteconsidering the circumstances of the past few weeks. (absent members and such....). we have managed to get alot done including completing our project all together and the editing which, i , did most of. although i dont like to brag. (ahe.) today we are working on our audience feedback, which includes getting people to watch our work and offer constructive critisism helping us to make better what we have already done. the feedback from "Dan" also helped us.
Can you make sure that when you edit your film openings after audience feedback, that you address BOTH the macro elements (genre, narrative, representation, audience) AND the micro elements: camera angles, movement, composition, editing, mise-en-scene and sound.
ReplyDeleteRavnita and Charlotte GG's blogs are beginning to look seriously impressive. Sam-what were your "red-tape" locational problems exactly? mention your technical difficulties with the uploading of files on the MACs which delayed you too. You have 3 weeks and Easter left to finish, edit and evaluate.I'm sure you can do it.
ReplyDeletePaul, Zoe, Deepak, Sibhan, Chrystie-am I missing something or are you not blogging? if you have your own site, could I have the link pasted on here, please, so me and your coursework moderator can follow it? Ta. :-))
ReplyDeleteAfter getting audience feedback for our films, I looked to see if there was anything I could do to improve it. According to the audience, most of them said that the film didn't have many camera angles and that I needed to improve that. But I couldn't because the camera angle should be like that throughout the whole film opening because it is a CCTV camera angle. So in order to make it realistic, we couldn't have different shots and angles. If I had to continue the film then I probably would use a variety of angles.
ReplyDeleteToday there is only me and ravnita. Siobhan, i regret to announce has, again, not made it to lesson.
ReplyDeleteOn Monday, we showed our work to the class and to Miss Leary and handed out questionnaires so we could get feedback and edit our videos accordingly. We had a comment on our questionnaire that mentioned our lack of camera angles. we have purposely decided to disregard this comment as we wanted to create the effect of a CCTV camera. We were considering adding maybe some more footage to the video to explain the non-diagetic ringing that occurs through out video, but as we already have the right amount of footage we needn't do this.
Today, we are going to do our evaluation, we our going to use our blogs to do this and also video our responses to the evaluation questions. This will help you gain a deeper understanding of what we thought of the task and how we found it.
Siobhan has put in an appearance for our lesson today. When she eventually showed up we were able to film our evaluation response. She inputted some commendable comments and even suggested editing options for when we upload it.
ReplyDeleteAs two of group members dropped out of the media course I worked on my own. I felt working on my own was the right thing to do because I don’t like relying on other people to do the work. First I had to do the researching side of things. I have explained my research in my last Blog. After completing my researching I had to do my planning. As I was the only member of my group I had to plan everything myself and also do it myself. I planned three different opening scenes and choose the best one. my best idea was a film about drugs. I choose to do about drugs because this is a every day thing which i see happening. Filming As i had no people in my group i had to get a couple of my mates to be in my film. i choose Stephen and Mohammed to help me. I used Mohammed as he had the min prop which u was going to use in my film which was the car. Stephen was a drug dealer which sold drugs in my school. In my film we produced a number of shots such as: long shot close shot establishing shot I took us about two to three weeks to complete the filming as it was hard to sort out days to film as Mohammed and Stephen have other lessons when I had my media lessons.
ReplyDeleteThe last couple of session we have been researching film openings. I have been slow with my researching and planning because I had lost two members of my group. This slowed my down.
I have particularly chosen one genre to look at which was action. The Films I researched and watched were:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieIgFUdOmtc&feature=related – The Dark Night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aroANnua8pI - Friday After Next
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUmPtFhMJ2E – Transformers 2 (Revenge of the Fallen)
All three of these films are action packed and also they are well known because they are follow ups from the film before, for example before Transformers 2 was made Transformers 1 was out which lead to Transformers 2. These films all did very well because of many reasons, some of these were because of the actors in each film.
The dark night – The actors that are well known in this film are:
Bruce Wayne as Batman
Heath Ledger as the Joker
I feel that this film has been a major hit because of how well know the actual BATMAN is. There are comics, cartoons etc about batman, this is how so many people know about this film.
Friday After Next – The actors that are well known in this film are:
Ice Cube as Craig
Chris Tucker as Smokey
Mike Epps as Day – days
These three actors are very well known from recent films and also past films that they have made because when watching a film and you see one actor and you think he is very good you tend to watch another film that he or she has made.
Transformers 2 – The actors that are well known in this film are:
Shia LaBeouf as Sam WitWicky
Megan Fox as Mickaela Banes
Tyrese Gibson as USAF Tech Sergeant Epps
This film has also made it huge in America and the UK. People feel that if you watch the first one and is good you have to watch the second one so you know what he real ending is because the second part of the film carry’s on from the first part.
I have also researched about my target audience. The films I researched about above are aimed at 16 year olds and older. This is because some of the films I have researched have adult humor. My target audience will be 16 +.
Charlotte-what effect does Siobhan being missing have on the group production at post production level?
ReplyDeleteDeepak: how does your film opening relate to the film openings you have researched in terms of genre, narrative, representation, camera work, mise-en-scene, sound etc? Also what audience research did you do?
ReplyDeleteToday I'll start to write my evaluation.
ReplyDeletehow does my media product represent particular social groups?
My groups product does not represent any social group as such, although it was made for a certain type of social group. For example we used our knowledge of our own age group and decided our product would be something that our age group would like, despite social class or category.
What kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why?
A small institution would distribute my product. I think this because our work is quite amateur and big institutions may not be as interested. In the media industry i think our film would be seen as low budget (it is) but i think considering our resources we used them very well and made the most, I think it is very good but not good enough for larger institutions such as SONY or 20th CENTURY FOX even with major improvements and extra work. \
Who would be the audience for my media product?
From the start we knew that our own age group would be the target audience. Purely because we already know how t cater for our own age group and people like us. It would be easier to do our research for this audience and gain feedback. When planning for our work we were able to know what was going on with our chosen genre (horror/thriller) and get some ideas from our chosen objects of research, this helped us a lot. Also when considering which movies research we asked our peers which horror films they liked and why, we took this into account along with our own ideas and were able to apply our knowledge to our work making an amateur masterpiece. We felt horror and thriller was the easiest to do because we already had great ideas, we also felt that this would look the most decent without it being too cheesy or without it looking to cheap.
How did we attract/address our audience?
We found it easy addressing our audience, because we had already done our audience and had a good idea of what they would be expecting. The mise-en-scene used was mainly the costumes which was conspicuous because you couldn't see the character wearing it. We, as a group, knew that suspense would grip our audience and make them want to know more about the mysterious character featured in our film. we also knew that the sound effects would make a difference in the suspense in the film offering confusion to the audience, which we knew gripped them further.
What have i learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt about various technologies in the process of constructing my product. I can now even more efficiently work an apple mac and a video recorder. I didn't do much editing but i could confidently edit a piece of work by myself and add effects to it. I could also chop and screw pieces to add distortion, as shown in our final product. This sufficient use helped better the quality of our product
Looking Back At Your Preliminary Task, What Do You Feel You Have Learnt In The Progression From That, To The Final Product?
I feel i have learnt a great deal from the preliminary task to this. I took a look at our first piece of work, "Ghosts". It was very amateur, the acting was sub-standard and our camera work was very undeveloped. There may be room to say that we may not have improved our camera handling skills due to the lack of movement in the camera, but in our new product the camera is very steady and has excellent panning movement. Our acting skills are much better and general work looks a lot more organized and professional, basically, like we know what we are doing. We have had fun in the process and taken all of our critisism into account, applied it to our work and ended up with better work everytime.
I'm fairly happy with my evaluation, i notice haven't made much reference to my shooting script, but to be totally honest, we mainly just wanted to do our production freehand and decided to just to a rough shooting script and use it as a vague foundation and something to faintly work from so we had some kind of idea on what to do and what approach to take.
ReplyDeletei thought it would be a good idea to make a "prezi", this is like a scrapbook kind of way to give the viewer a deeper understanding of my train of thought when making my production. The programme is very helpful and easy to use. I feel i will be able to express my thoughts on the project using this programme very well.
http://asmediagroup2paulmcnamee.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeletehttp://zoesasmediagroup2.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeletehttp://prezi.com/nbqkoa7dkjca/
ReplyDeleteAbove is the link to my "prezi" it is a public link so you should be able to see it. I struggled to get the hang of it but i did my best. :)
There are large headings with our main concerns and questions around them which made us further think about what we needed to do about our product. You can move the screen around and take a look, zoom in and zoom out. It's quite fun once you get the hang of it.
http://prezi.com/nbqkoa7dkjca/media-thought-process/
ReplyDeleteAbove is the link to my "prezi", its not great but i tried to use the programme as best i could. there are large headings which were our groups main concerns in creating our product and the small questions around them were extra things for us to consider and to help us.
I hope you enjoy.
Im impressed with your honesty, Charlotte, about your group and individual effort. Can you not upload the video evaluation you filmed, because as impressive as your Prezi is, I would have liked to see more direct links to the actual film openings you researched around the key concepts of genre, narrative, representation and audience and I feel your evaluation on film captured this more. Well done, anyway, as the first to finish the task. Please upload the evaluation!
ReplyDeleteDeepak-can't mark it-evaluation missing!
ReplyDeleteThe first lot of research and planning i did was me and Sam watched film openings for many different films of different genres to see which film genre would be the best for our project. At first we watched the film openings of Goodfellas a classic mafia movie of the 90's. We thought that this was a good idea for a film but when it came to brainstorming we didn't have many ideas. Then we had a look at the comedy genre or the "buddy" comedy genre and we looked at films such as Pineapple Express, I Love You Man and Role Models these were very successful buddy comedies but again no ideas were put forward. Now we came to the Horror genre and looked at the 80's and 90's slasher films and i watched film openings of Halloween, Friday 13th and Scream. This is were our main idea for the project came together. I spent hours analysing the Friday 13th series and thats what we wanted to make a film that was suspenseful and not too cliche with the slasher genre. What i gathered form these films was that there is a killer usually haunting or stalking a particular location or person e.g Jason Vorhees had Camp Crystal Lake and Freddy Krueger had the dreams of teenagers. There is a group of people usually limited to teenagers however because they are serial killers they will kill anyone. The final thing is a weapon usually a blade of some kind e.g Jason had a machete and Freddy had a Razor Claw. Another main concept of the film's is that someone will always be killed in the first couple of scenes. So we had to incorporate this important characteristic into our project. Other research that i did was i looked into the profiling of some of the killers e.g i found out some interesting facts about Jason Vorhees on this website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Voorhees
ReplyDeleteFinally I found out the main and usually most important characteristic of the killers the costume. In many horror films the costume is usually the most important thing the killer has because it gives them identity into who they are and it also makes people terrified of them having the right costume is vital for a good horror movie. This is why we took careful consideration into choosing our costume for our killer.

We filmed our evaluation twice and both times technology let us down lol. I too would like my evaluation to be more visual. Especially as i liked this unit so much. (No Sarcasm.)
ReplyDeleteI will include more links to film openings and clips to show you what we were aiming for and what we looked at for ideas.

ReplyDeleteAbove is the link to a preview of The Unborn. We feel this film had the shock factor, as ours did and the ability to make the viewer say "WTF".

This is the link to a film called The Box. It didn't affect any of our decision making with our film but we did like the chill it gave us.
I liked the idea of a voice-over, but we didn't know what to say nor could we find anyone will a scary enough voice. so we thought sound effects were more than efficient.
Charlotte-why have you changed your name from "Chuuurl" in the last few postings?
ReplyDeleteIt is 4.40am in the morning. I have been marking evaluations for an hour now and have only managed to mark one! You have until tonight to post them, if you are blogging on here or a potential 20 marks will be lost. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
ReplyDeleteIn what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
ReplyDeleteMy media product uses, develops and challenges many forms and conventions of real film products. One of these being that I researched horror movies and looked at the mise en scene used, the characters chosen, the lighting and the setting. I challenged the conventions by choosing a female to play the ‘villain’ figure. This is challenging the conventions for a number of reasons. Firstly after researching on horror movies, I found out that most horrors films had male villains. So I decided to choose a female to make the film different to the usual. This challenged me because I had to think about the mise en scene, which is the costumes, body language and other extras. I had to think about what the audiences opinions would be about having a female villain in the horror movie. However, I thought that most people would not like having a female villain because the villain-like figure would be destroyed, so I didn’t use speech throughout the whole opening and didn’t show the face of the female. I used an all black costume, not particular colours because this could outweigh the point of the film opening having a villain. However, the audience could choose what gender they want the villain to be because I did not refer to gender in any particular way in the opening. The only way you can tell is by the posture. The figure makes it look obvious by the long black coat the villain is a female.
How does your media product represent different social groups?
My media product doesn’t really represent any particular type of social groups. If the next task were to continue the film, then I would include some class students because the opening task is set in a school, so they would probably be the social groups that my media product is aimed towards. The film opening doesn’t aim at any social groups but it is made for a particular type of social group. I used my knowledge of students around my age group and thought about what they would like to and worked around that. The fact that I myself am a teenager I used techniques that I thought was professional, but it would still be on the same level as what any other teenager would come up with, so for that reason it doesn’t really represent any social groups. I have only used one character throughout the entire film opening and the film doesn’t really have a message for the audience. If it was a film with drug use, then that has its social groups, but my film was a typical horror film opening that didn’t really have a message to the audience. However, if I were to continue the film to the end, it would have social groups that would be represented because I would explore and use more characters. Then maybe it would represent a group off school students. Not any type of students, I haven’t planned this yet. But if I were to work and plan more towards the final full film, I would plan each individual student that would appear in the film and have a profile on each character talking about their personalities, the age, the past important events in their life that highlight who they are now. I would use all those points to do the best that I can do to make it as realistically as possible. My story would continue from the opening and become a mystery, so the social group would probably be a group of three girls all aged between 16-18. Just by that I would want the audience to think of ‘typical school students’. Not exactly good workers, but attend school for the experience and to spend time with their friends. With a bit more planning I would be able to get them involved in the film.
What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why?
ReplyDeleteThe small and not so well known institutions would distribute my film, the reason being because my opening is on a low level and not professional. For that reason big institutions would not be interested. The film would not only be seen as unprofessional but also low budget. With the resources that we had, it is low budget but I managed to use everything I was given very well. For the resources I had to make the film opening, I think I managed to use everything as well as I could. For the resources I had to make the film opening, I think I made the most of it and used them all appropriately. However, I don’t think it was good enough for worldwide institutions. Institutions like 20th Century Fox would not accept this film opening because of the amount of resources I had, even with improvements it would not be up to the standard that big institutions are looking for in the film industry. In addition to that, big industries would want to test my knowledge on film production. By looking at my film opening, I did not show a variety of camera angles such as panning, over the shoulder shot, long shot etc. In this piece I showed very little variety of camera shots. This would be a problem for worldwide industries to distribute my film by just depending on this opening because not only the camera angles were limited but so were the use of characters in this piece. This is one topic I did not plan before producing the film opening. But I now know that in the next task I will research into what big industries look for. If I were to reproduce this piece I would work around this and produce something that well-known industries are looking for. I would use a variety of camera angles and a good use of characters with different moods and personalities to show that I can explore and can work with a mixture of personalities and not only specific ones. For all the above reasons, I think a small, independent industry would distribute by looking at this film opening. In many ways I think this is good because instead of going straight into the big industry it is better to experience the small industries then move up, this means that if you go straight to the big industries to get your movie distributed, you will never be able to go back to the independent film industries because you will already be recognised by the main industries. This means less experience. Whereas if you start with a small industry, distribute small movies, take their advice and learn and explore with the advice given. The more short movies that you produce, the more the larger industries would take interest.
Who would be the audience for the media product?
ReplyDeleteFor this product, I aimed at teenagers 15 and over. This film could be distributed as a 15s. The reason being because even though there is just one angle for the film and there isn’t any violence and strong language, but because it involves flashing images. This could effect children under 15 but can be controlled by teenagers over fifteen. Instead of taking risks with 12s I thought it would be better to go up a level with a fifteen. It wouldn’t be a 15s because of the horror genre because it isn’t scary. But I thought it would be better because if a teenager has produced it, then it would be on the same level as teenagers of the same age. Also, by deciding the age range so early in the production was a bit of a challenge. I had to think about the film as a whole, not just the opening. So that lead on to me having to plan the rest of the film and then deciding who the audience would be. At the moment just by watching the opening it may not look like it could go in for a 15s, but if I had to continue filming the rest of the film, I would so it would all fall into place. After talking about what industry would distribute my product, I wouldn’t expect there to be a lot of audience wanting to watch my film opening. As a teenager myself, I don’t ever really watch a film that’s not well known. The advertising really matters to me, if there is not enough advertising to a film, then I do not feel the need to go out and watch it. Another thing is the merchandising; a good film leads to more fans, which leads to merchandising. I have never seen an independent movie advertise or produce merchandise for its chosen audience.
How did you attract/address your audience?
ReplyDeleteI attracted and addressed teenagers by watching films for over 18s, taking ideas and remaking it. The reason why it wouldn’t come out as scary is because I didn’t have the cameras and the props that the film industries use. That wouldn’t be as scary because I am a teenager myself, I would make it the same level as the audience. I asked a few people in my media class if they liked watching horror films, and the majority said yes. But most horror films are 18s. I wanted to make this film opening interesting enough so that students involved themselves. After researching the horrors films, I noticed that most of the films had a lot of suspense. This is what attracts the audience. So I thought if I included a bit of suspense in my film opening, it would have the similarity that would always get positive feedback from the audience. The costumes used in the film helped me attract my chosen audience because it creates suspense. Using just the one character really helped attract my audience because it helps create more mystery so the audience want to know what happens next and want to watch more into the film. The sound effects also helped because there is always something playing in the background of the film, this doesn’t give the audience a chance to get bored throughout the film and keeps them interested at all times. Also, by talking about the chosen audience, I mentioned that the lack of advertising leads to less audience, which is stating the obvious but that is a huge problem for my film opening because if an independent industry distributed my film, I would not have much advertising, which leads to less audience, which then makes it harder to attract my audience. From a teenagers point of view, I would never watch a movie that doesn’t have much advertising and rating. This is because it doesn’t attract me as much as a well known and well advertised movie would. Before producing the film opening, I did plan this and thought about how I am going to attract my audience the way that a film would attract. I chose the horror genre because I went around asking some members from my media class what genre they like for a teenage movie. The majority said horror. So I got teenagers opinions for a teenagers movie, that is exactly what I was looking for.

In the process of constructing this product I learnt various types of new technology and programmes. I have learnt how to use iMovie in more detail. I now recognise most of the buttons and know what they mean and how they should be used. I also learnt more about the video cameras, how to upload and more of the less obvious things. Even though this was my first time on editing on iMovie, I managed to do well. If I was told to edit a film alone with no guidance, I could use my knowledge from this task to help me further. I could also use some effects and transactions that I used in my task to make it look more professional by the quality. I asked for advice when I was unsure about how to use something; that really helped because after learning new things it will help me for future tasks. If in future I was to make a movie alone with no guidance, I think I would manage. The reason behind this is because if I was unsure about how to use the camera for some reason, I would ask and not just leave it and work around the problem. I would solve the problem and ask how to make it possible. I am a determined student that plans well and makes sure that work goes according to plan. If there is a problem on the way, then I make sure I solve it and produce the product as I had planned. Having this attitude about my work helps me change a ‘standard’ piece to a ‘perfect’ piece. The one problem my group and myself had was that the iMovies had the facilities to slow down and speed up but not the version we used. This was disappointing because I was unable to use that effect which would make a huge difference to my movie.
ReplyDeleteLooking back at my preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in this progression from it to the full product?
ReplyDeleteI feel more confident now and I have learnt a lot more. After watching the first task “Ghosts”, I feel much more confident with my film opening. “Ghosts” was filmed at the beginning of the school year and by watching it, not only did it look unplanned but also the camera work, acting and editing was all very unprofessional. So after looking back at that, I think I have learnt a great deal more and I have been given advice to improve my work, which has definitely worked. Each time I have produced something on film, I ask for comments and I take in the criticism and improve every time which always makes the finishing product professional and much more organised. Not only did I find this task a better way to help me learn about media, but also it was fun and I enjoyed filming and editing. However, I could not test myself on the camerawork because during the filming I had to keep the camera at one angle throughout the whole filming process. This could not help me improve my knowledge about camera work because the camera was steady in one place so it was difficult for me to test myself on how well I know how to keep a steady camera and how many angles I could use. But I have improved from the last task up to now, then surely this will help me improve for a future task yet to be given. Collectively, I believe I have done my best that I could do in this task and that I couldn’t improve it anymore. Even though every time I watch it, it seems to be one or two points that need to be changed. But after watching it for the final time, I couldn’t edit it anymore. I am glad the peer evaluations were honest and it helped me edit and improve according to what the audience think is correct. I have also learnt a lot about filming: how to use the resources and the techniques that should be used. I was disappointed with the fact that I couldn’t show my knowledge of camerawork in my film opening task because even thought the camera was supposed to be a CCTV, it looks as though I do not know how to use the variety of techniques that I have learnt in media since the beginning of the year. So, if I could improve something, it would be that I would think of another way to set an effect like the CCTV, but by using a variety of my knowledge of camera angles.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
ReplyDeleteMy film opening challenges the forms and conventions of real media products by taking a different approach to the way that these films in the genre are presented. For example taking a look at a film such as “Adulthood”, the opening scene is backed up by upbeat music, with big groups of people dotted around in an area, whereas my opening sequence takes the form of a subtle and less vibrant or dominant.

ReplyDeleteEvaluation
Whilst making our film opening we didn’t try to make it seem as though it represented a particular social, however it was made for a specific audience. We wanted it to be aimed at our own age group as we know that it is what people our age seem to be into.
I think a small institution would help to distribute our groups product. I think this would work better because a we are new to the film industry and bigger company may not be as interested as the smaller ones therefore the is a less risk of us being turned away. We use many different resources to make our film opening therefore I don’t think that our film would cost that much to and our budget would be set to a low cost.
From the begging of our planning and research we knew straight away that our own age group would be our target audience as we know what they like so we can then input it into our film. This also helped us as it was easier to do research and get feedback from our peers as we used our own classmates. Also when considering which movies to research we also asked our peers which horror films they preferred and why hey did. Us as a group all enjoy horror and thriller and thought that it would be one of the easiest to do because we all watched a lot of them and all knew what was expected in those kind of films. However e also felt that trying to do a funny film could ethier work or turn out cheesy which we did our want in our film.
We found it quite easy to address our audience, because we had already been asking them questions to find out what they like so they had a good idea of what they would be expecting. The mise-en-scene we used was used through the costumes and design as the other effects that we used were done on he computer. We knew that suspense would get the viewers attention and make them want to know more about the film.
I learnt about the different technologies in the whilst learning how to produce a film. I now find it more easier to work an apple mac aswell as using a video recorder. I wasn’t the one that done most of the editing on our film yet I know that if I was leftto my own devices I would be able to work on my own.
I took a look at our first piece of work that our goup had produced, Ghosts and compared to this final product it was very poor and I would mark it at a low standard. The acting and our camera work was very underdeveloped and unproffessional. Our acting skills are way better and our general work is a lot more organized and professional then it was before. We have had fun whilst making our film and I would deffinetly do it again and turn all of our negivtive feedback into positive and put it into account to make our next film even better.
Here is my evaluation:
ReplyDeleteMy Media Product, No trespassing, takes common and recognisable conventions from the horror genre and develops to suit the film specific connotations. The modern horror genre is traditionally based around a group of people who encounter a series of strange circumstances that eventually leads to the discovery of a villain, a person, thing or supernatural being that they have to overcome, whilst facing grave consequence – usually death or gross bodily harm displayed in a bloody and obvious manner. In this case, the group of people encountering danger are a group of naïve, unwitting teenagers – the circumstances being them breaking into a school(hence the title) and the master villain in this case is a psychotic male in a bloody apron and construction mask. This draws similarities between films such as Jeepers Creepers and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Here is a link to the clip of the 2003 remake of that famous cult horror and Leatherface’s introducton – notice the similarities from Trian, who played the anonymous construction murderer in No Trespassing and Ed Gein, who is better known as leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PXSHyNlT8E
The social groups represented by my film opening are predominantly late teens aged 16 – 18. These are portrayed with a level of naivety, ignorance and rebelliousness tat has been associated with teenagers since their conception. This is shown throughout my media product through their actions, mainly the ignorance of clearly logical safety procedure and the continued ignorance of the danger that follows it.
The distribution of this product, as the target audience match the characters in the film ,(16 -18) I would centre the distribution of the product in the main centres of teenage attention. I would place teaser trailers on social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter and advertise on world visited sites such as Youtube. I would place posters in places that teenagers regularly go – Bus Stops, Cinemas, Town centres. It would be matched by various by products to continue teenagers interest and so to lengthen interest in the film, so to create interest for a sequel. These would include video games, books and DVD’s. I researched using UK film council - www.diversitytoolkit.org.uk and through this I found out that only 1% of cinemas on are in rural locations, so it would be advantageous for my film to focus my advertisement towards urban places. I also conducted a survey through 6th form and I discovered that through my research that 70% of late teenagers aged 16 – 18 watch horror films on a regular basis. This then cemented my genre, my target audience and characters and then my advertisement style.
A media institution I would look towards for distributing it for me – considering its target audience and nature of the film itself – a big distributor would be needed so to capture public interest. A Sony BMG or Warner Bros would very useful. This would be specifically useful in the conversion process – turning my media product into multi media franchise.
ReplyDeleteIn the construction, conception and creating of this product I have learnt and become familiar with various technologies – these include I movie – the program I used to edit and sounds and subtitles to my product. I am aware how to use blogging websites such as www.blogspot.com and to have accounts on sites like Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/sugarjunkiesam) which familiarised me with manual forms of distribution. I have learnt to how to operate a camera to full effect and how to use it to capture certain themes in my product with ease.
I have learnt a great deal in the progression through my media product I have leant the difficulties of conceptualising a product that sounds great in my head but various practicalities hold it back. It has shown me a film or any media product, be it a piece of music or anything else inevitably changes over the course of its production. For example when I first recorded Ghosts, my first venture into film, there is a remarkable change bfrom one to the next, with diagetic sound, and camerawork in particular. As a result, it has taught me to adapt to different circumstances, and accepting change in your original idea. This as a skill will be useful in later life. I have learnt that this is a hugely difficult job to organise, script and film for simply 2 minutes of film. I feel that my film as an idea is a successful respresentation of the modern horror genre, but as a media product is let down somewhat by my obvious and almost painfully noticeable lack of technical expertise. The
Part 2 :)
audience research that followed this showed that 82% of viewers enjoyed the film and nearly all of the viewers commented that it is a good idea, but is let down by shaky camera work and unnecessary diagetic sound. Overall it has shown me that to continue this would require a lot of patience persistence and pertinence, however the rewards are immensely satisfying.
Excellent evaluation, Sam! It's a shame you didn't make it just a bit more interactive with embedded clips and images etc. Very impressed at your eloquence!
ReplyDeleteThe name of my film was called “SHOTTER ON SCENE”. I called it this because it is a very catchy name and also the word “SHOTTER” means something else and as my film is a urban gangster film people will know what he word means. “SHOTTER” is another word for drug dealer. This will tell my audience that the genre of my film is a typical urban gangster movie.
ReplyDeleteThe first lot of research and planning i did was watching a variety of horror genre opening scenes. I didn’t look for any other genre as my mind was set on producing a horror genre movie. At first I watched “Paranormal Activity” as it was a new horror that came out. This was relevant as I wanted my movie to have the same atmosphere as paranormal activity. I thought that this was a good idea for a film but when it came to brainstorming i didn't have any ideas about what I wanted to be included in my movie. I also watched the “The Unborn”, “SAW”, “The Ring” and “Friday the 13th” but again no ideas were coming to me. I spent hours watching movie to movie comparing what was good and bad about the opening scenes. Then I watched “Halloween 2” and it gave me an idea of “CCTV” cameras and the scary greyscale effect. What i realized from these films was that there is a killer always haunting or stalking a particular location or person e.g Micheal Myers in Halloween who is stalking his sister trying to kill her. The final thing I recognized is that there is always a weapon used or physical action is used. E.g. Micheal Myers using his hands to strangle people in Halloween 2. Another main concept of the film's is that someone will always be killed in the first couple of scenes or they will be suspense at the beginning showing you the killer or what the killer is planning. In many horror films the costume is usually the most important thing for the killer has because it gives them identity into who they are and it also makes people terrified of them having the right costume is vital for a good horror movie. I also realized that the killer is always wearing something worn out and dull coloured which gave me an idea of a cloak being used on the killer in my movie.
ReplyDeleteHere are the links of the movies that I researched to relate to my movie.
Paranormal Activity
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSSqxrh5kp8
Halloween 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjlgtsfmolY
Saw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Opz1kxZSk10
this is my evaluation.
ReplyDeleteIn what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In our media product we decided to go against conventions without horror genre. We went against this by making the woman the enemy when usually it is a male. Our product related to most of the film openings that we researched before we made our movie opening. We based our movie opening to films such as;
• Saw
• Paranormal Activity
• The Ring
• The Fourth Kind
We used these movies as our ideas because of their story plots and ‘spine-chilling” moments. We used these because we wanted our movie to be scary and have jumpy parts like the ring. Normally in a horror opening there is always a flashback to tell the audience the story before they show the present in the rest of the movie. In our movie opening we challenge these forms by going straight into the story plot and not showing no flashbacks. These makes the movie opening less boring because its gone straight into the horror part of the film and makes people uneasy. We used sound effects that would set the horror genre and create mise-en-scene throughout the opening. Having horror sound effects creates a scary atmosphere that would put the audience on edge and anxious.
How does your media product represent different social groups?
My media product isn’t aimed at anybody inparticular so it doesn’t represent any social groups, however, if I had to continue my movie opening it would include students as the film is set in a school. I used my knowledge of students around my age group and thought about what they would like to watch and worked around that. The fact that I myself am a teenager I used techniques that I thought was professional but it would be on the same level as any other teenager producing a movie. I have only used one character throughout the entire film opening which means that there isn’t any message for the audience. My film was a typical horror film opening that didn’t really have a message to the audience because it was focusing on the horror genre not the message. However, if I were to continue the film to the end, it would have social groups that would be represented because I would explore and use more characters. If this was to happen I would plan each individual student that would appear in the film and have a profile on each character talking about their personalities and what their role in the film is. My story would continue from the opening and become a mystery, so the social group would probably be a group of three girls all aged between 16-18 because girls are seen as more vunerable than boys. Just by that I would want the audience to think of ‘typical school students’. With a bit more planning towards the next scenes I would make sure I would include this.
What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why?
ReplyDeleteThe small institutions would distribute my film, the reason being because my opening is on a low level and not professional so it wouldn’t be seen good enough for the big institutions. For that reason big institutions would not be interested. The film would not only be seen as unprofessional but also low budget. With the resources that we had, I think I managed to use everything as well as I could. I think I used the equipment that I had appropriately and used it to the best of my ability. However, I don’t think it was good enough for worldwide institutions, like 20th Century Fox because they would not accept this film opening because of the amount of resources I had, even with improvements it would not be up to the standards. By looking at my film opening, I did not show a variety of camera angles such as panning, over the shoulder shot, long shot etc. But this was because it was CCTV and CCTV does not use camera angles as it just stays still. In this piece I showed very little variety of camera shots. In many ways I think this is good because instead of going straight into the big industry it is better to experience the small industries then move up, this means that if you go straight to the big industries to get your movie distributed, you will never be able to go back to the independent film industries because you will already be recognised by the main industries. This would be a problem for worldwide industries to distribute my film by just depending on this opening because not only the camera angles were limited but so were the use of characters in this piece.
Who would be the audience for the media product?
For my media product, I aimed it at teenagers 15 and over. This film could be distributed as a certificate 15. The reason being because even though there is just one angle for the film and there isn’t any violence and strong language or sexual scenes. But because it involves flashing images it wouldn’t be appropriate for a certificate 12. This could effect children under 15 but can be controlled by teenagers over fifteen. Instead of taking risks with 12s I thought it would be better to go up a level with a fifteen. Also, by deciding the age range so early in the production was a bit of a challenge to make sure that there wasn’t anything inappropriate that a 15 year old couldn’t handle. I had to think about the film as a whole, not just the opening. At the moment just by watching the opening it may not look like it could go in for a certificate 15 but for a certificate 18 because of the flashing images. However if I carried on the film from the opening it would fall in place for it to be appropriate for 15 year olds. After talking about what industry would distribute my product, I wouldn’t expect there to be a lot of audience wanting to watch my film opening as I am not known and it is my first media product. As a teenager myself, I personally wouldn’t go and watch a film that has been produced by an ameteur. The advertising really matters to me, if there is not enough advertising to a film, then I do not feel the need to go out and watch it. If the trailer doesn’t show anything interesting I wont watch it, if the advertising is sloppy I will assume that the movie isn’t going to be good.

ReplyDeleteHow did you attract/address your audience?
ReplyDeleteI attracted and addressed teenagers by watching films for over 15 & 18s, taking ideas and remaking it. The reason why it wouldn’t come out as scary is because I didn’t have the sound effects or the effects that could make the movie content scarier. But most horror films are 18s. I wanted to make this film opening interesting enough so that students involved themselves so personally I wanted to make my movie a certificate 15. After researching the horrors films, I noticed that most of the films had a lot of suspense and tension. This is what attracts the audience. So I thought if I included a bit of suspense in my film opening it would attract the audience in wanting to carry on watching the film. The costumes used in the film helped me attract my chosen audience because it creates suspense. Using just the one character really helped attract my audience because it helps create more mystery. The sound effects I used also helped as it there was always music playing in the background causing tension and keeping the audience on its feet. I would make sure that my advertising is professional as a teenager I wouldn’t want to watch a film with lack of advertising and sloppy trailers. Before producing the film opening, I did plan this and thought about how I am going to attract my audience the way that a film would attract.
Here are some of the films I researched.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of contructing this product?
In the process of constructing this product I learnt various types of new technology and programmes. I have learnt how to use iMovie in more detail. I now recognise most of the buttons and know what they mean and how they should be used and what happens when I click onto them. I also learnt more about the video cameras, how to upload and more of the less obvious things like zooming in and out. I asked for advice when I was unsure about how to use something; that really helped because after learning new things it will help me for future tasks. In the future if I had to produce a movie on my own I could manage. The reason behind this is because I know the camera inside out and I know how to use imovie to its full potiental. I am a determined student that plans well and makes sure that work goes according to plan. If there is a problem on the way, then I make sure I solve it and produce the product as I had planned. The one problem my group and myself had was that the iMovies had the facilities to slow down and speed up but not the version we used. We solved a couple of problems while making the movie like how to change the colour of the movie and how to slow it down. This was disappointing because I was unable to use that effect which would make a huge difference to my movie.
Looking back at my preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in this progression from it to the full product?
ReplyDeleteI feel much more confident with my film opening after seeing my other film “Ghosts”. “Ghosts” was filmed at the beginning of the school year and by watching it, not only did it look unplanned but also the camera work, acting and editing was all very unprofessional. The camera wobbled numerous times and the acting was horrendous. So after looking back at that, I think I have learnt a great deal more and I have been given advice to improve my work, which has definitely worked. If you compare the 2 movies together you can tell how much I have learnt and how much detail has been put in the second movie. Each time I have produced something on film, I ask for comments and I take in the criticism and improve every time which always makes the finishing product professional and much more organised. Because of the CCTV effect this could not help me improve my knowledge about camera work because the camera was steady in one place so it was difficult for me to test myself on how well I know how to keep a steady camera and how many angles I could use. Not only did I find this task a better way to help me learn about media, but also it was fun and I enjoyed filming and editing. But I have improved from the last task up to now, then surely this will help me improve for a future task yet to be given. I am glad the peer evaluations were honest and it helped me edit and improve according to what the audience think is correct. However we didn’t have many critisms except the fact we didn’t use many camera angles because it was CCTV which is exceptable. I was disappointed with the fact that I couldn’t show my knowledge of camerawork in my film opening task because even thought the camera was supposed to be a CCTV, it looks as though I do not know how to use the variety of techniques that I have learnt in media since the beginning of the year.

The name of my film is Room 2548 i named it this because it is mysterious and makes people think what genre it is and what is going to happen in this room.
